About Sharon Zuercher
I grew up in the Midwest with four siblings, in a home surrounded by missions. My mom grew up in Argentina as an MK, my dad grew up visiting his uncles, aunts and cousins on the mission field in Columbia. I grew up with extended family serving in Spain, Argentina, and here in the U.S. My dad was employed at a mission organization and I heard stories about all the missionaries whose prayer cards he designed, or who were on home assignment. I grew up around missions.But somehow I always thought missions was for “them,” the “super spiritual”, the “gifted,” that God couldn’t use me. I was no one special. God changed that in 2001 when I went on my first mission trip (how that came about is a story in and of itself), and in the years following as I organized and led mission teams to Mexico. I realized that God uses all kinds of “unqualified” people and that I was gifted; He gifted me with a heart to serve. It was in 2008 that God led me to Haiti with Hands and Feet, and I could have never imagined the love that He would grow in me. I’ve had the desire to serve in Haiti longer-term ever since that first trip but it never seemed to be God’s timing, until now. I’m so excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve at HAF this spring/summer, and to share this love that God has been growing in me.
